Good Shepherd Walk or Wheel to School Day- Thursday 31st March 2022
Good Shepherd Walk or Wheel to School Day- Thursday 31st March 2022
Regular physical activity is important to promote good physical and mental health. And active travel is a great way for children to build physical activity into their daily routine. It helps children arrive more relaxed, alert and ready to start the school day. Travelling actively to school, rather than by car, also helps reduce congestion and improve air quality around schools.
Research shows that:
· active travel improves concentration in class
· increased physical activity is good for our mental health
· children believe active travel is a good way to bring down pollution levels
· pupils want to travel actively to school
Taking part in this event would be a fun way to kick start healthy habits, to help improve local air quality and help tackle climate change. It would also ease congestion at the school gates.
On Thursday 31st March we are encouraging our pupils to walk, cycle or scoot to school. We know that it may not be possible for children who live a long distance from the school (maybe you could park a little distance from school and walk the final part of the journey with your child). To encourage the pupils to take part we will give the children a homework pass if they walk, cycle or scoot to school!
